I'm gonna pretend that the gorgeous color has nothing to do with the camera but everything to do with the photographer... and maybe a bit of credit to the location. Glad you like the new gear though. -tv

Thanks all, but uh oh! All these high expectations with the new gear. It's still me pushing the buttons and I'm out of my element presently. The camera reacts quite a bit differently from what I'm used to and the new interface is nice but unfamiliar. I'm looking forward to getting to know this new tool though :-)

I agree with Penny, this will be a treat for us. The new camera looks good and the scene is amazing - Debi

Beautiful shot, Brent. And congrats on the new camera...I'm so jealous.

Amazing color Brent. I'm super jealous of that camera too. I'm guessing that HD movies really eat up the memory card. -Doug

Thanks YB and Penny :-) Gotta figure out the new camera more (it meters exposure much differently than my 30D for example) but I think I am going to like it a lot. I included the location with the image YB. This is just a few blocks from my flat and usually a quick grab for me. Seattle is generally a good place for sunrises as well as sunsets (when the clouds aren't too heavy) with a big lake and mountains to the east and ocean, islands, and a peninsula of mountains to the west. The hardest thing this time of year is most people are still at work when the sun sets (this was taken at 4:36). I usually go to and from work in the dark now :-(

Oh my goodness - it looks like that camera's going to work well for you (us)! What a treat! Penny Street

Hi Brent - envious that you have a new camera :(
Can I make a little request and ask you to include the location the shot was taken, (I thought only Wales had wonderful sunsets)

Hey thanks Rod Mate :-) It just arrived at my office this morning (ordered it over two months ago) and I thought to myself; I worked my A$$ off last month and deserve a treat (think I'm the first one on my block with one). I've hardly had a chance to use it really. I could tell it was going to be a nice sunset from the office so I rode my bike home as fast as I could to grab my tripod and head over to the view park (a little sweaty). I gave it a go, but still need to get the hang of it. It's quite a manly camera I have to say. Looking through the viewfinder is so bright it makes my 30D (which isn't as bright as a 40D or 50D) seem like you are looking through a pinhole. The 1600 iso jpegs (after just a few) look like the 400 iso ones from my old camera. The hi-res LCD is pretty stunning too. I love having IS already (got the 24-105 kit) and think I will soon trade up my 70-200 for one like yours with IS. I haven't had the 17-40 on it yet but look forward to some really wide angle. I'm on cloud nine!

Wow, wow & bleeding wow. No not the girly sunset (which is terrific) but the camera, I didn't think you would get it so soon. Have you tried the 17-40 onit yet? That will give some really wide picys. I imagine the new camera will take the pain away from all the hours you have been putting in at work a. The picy without much processing looks really good. Well done Brent, I'm almost as happy as you:-)

Thanks Carole :-) I inadvertently set the camera to shoot jpeg instead of the RAW I'm used to, but I was pretty pleased with the color and all. Virtually no editing here.

This has a very peaceful look to it Brent, and the colors are wonderful! I like the bush in the foreground framing the scene too. CJ
