I'll be waiting to see your stuff, Tom. It's really fun. And the dead ones rarely move. :)

Kurt, it was stationary difused lighting from the sides.

Thanks, Doug. :) ~Lydia

You really "caught" a great expression here Lydia! Macro world is always amazing and you nicely illustrate its complexity. Did you use flash lighting? - angioman

I like your bee many times more than Hirst's Shark but it doesn't seem so minimal of color with all those yellows and oranges and rusts and ocres - a whole earthy pallet. But you've provided inspiration to us National Geographic wannabes who can't seem to get them live. I never thought of the dead ones before. What a revelation. Now I have reason to wipe the dust off my macro lens. -tv

You made a dead bee come alive. Well done Lydia. -COAmature

Hmmmm... If Mr. Hirst's work is 'art', then I hope mine never is. *grin* ~Lydia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damien_Hirst.
He did, among others, the dead shark in formaldehyde that sold at Sothebys for many millions. I saw the exhibit at the Metropolitan Museium. But the shark I saw was NOT the first shark he put in that tank. I happen to know because I work for the firm that did the structural engineering for the exhibit.

Thank you, Sharon.

Did you notice that his nose looks like an orange? Do you think that God was reusing a blueprint?

I couldn't find one, Rod. *grin* ~Lydia

Great shot, Lydia! I always thought it was cheating to take pictures of dead insects - until now. You make this a beautiful, artistic and interesting study. Good work! ~Sharon

Hmmmm... Interesting comparison.

I have seen some of the Body stuff and actually think it's pretty cool for teaching youngsters (and oldsters, for that matter) about the wonders of the body. As a home schooling family it was fascinating to use this to teach. The body is a marvelous creation. As I understand it the bodies are legitimately gotten with appropriate permission, and I personally don't care what anyone does with my body after I'm finished with it. (I've said so to my parents and hubby). I won't need it anymore and it will be as garbage to me. If it means something to anyone else, they're welcome to it. :) I searched for Mr. Hirsch with no enlightenment. !Lydia

P.S. This bee was dead when I found it on the driveway.

On topic, well shot, but it would be interesting to know what you think of artists like Gunther von Hagen and Damian Hirsch. I find them problematic myself, to say the least ;)

With the bees arms crossed like that you should have placed it in a little casket:-)
