John Wayne is about as western as I get. It was that western feeling I was going for so thank you for noticing. -Doug

This is a brave shot Doug - nicely executed with what I see as a heart-felt tribute to old western movies and their standards about how we would like people to behave in the old western tradition of goodness. The old-fashioned tipping of the hat brim is what does it. We can only hope. -tv

One of our regulars, Mikey, hosted the backlighting challenge about a year and a half ago. Yes, I would like another shot at that one. Thanks for the comment. -Doug

Well done CoAm! Backlighting would be a great challenge topic on its own (hint, hint...). - angioman

Well bugger me this is a ripper of a picy Doug. Just having that bit of detail down the right side & the subdued colouring gives this a unique look. Having him touch his hat like that gives a real contradiction to his very young cute face. This is great mate.

For this I flashed two strobes into a white muslin but placed my subject between the camera and the lights. This over exposed the backdrop to create the silhouette. Then all I needed was a white relfective surface to bounce some of that light back at him. -Doug
