I guess it can be both a hindrance and an asset. I have had people move out of the way looking at my camera because they think I am from the press with a fancy camera ( you dont see dslrs that frequently in India). On the other hand people do become more self concious. The other day when I old my hubby that I wanted to go to some markets to pictures and he insisted I should go with him as people are now worried about terrorists. Anyway I mostly take pictures from the cab and usually no one notices - Debi

I have the G2 Tommy & with the swivel LCD screen I could be a lot more sneaky when doing people picys. I did a similar shoot today & had the focus set on servo to track moving objects & stood on a zebra crossing just shooting straight ahead with people coming towards me. Some looked into the camera & others tried their best to not look. So the size of the camera may induce more of a reaction but I think most people just try & ignore you. I was shooting inside a store this morning & even got the managers permission, everything was going fine & after taking some shots up an aisle I took the camera down from my eye when a bloke walked past from right to left who wasn't in the aisle I was shooting up & gave me a really dirty look as he walked past. I said to him "cheer up mate" & he turned around & asked me what I was doing. I told him I'm an ahrtiiiist photographer & I have the managers permission & he said people don't like having their picys taken. I then asked him how he knew the other people in the shop didn't like having their picy taken, he then thought for a few seconds & said, well I don't like having my picy taken. I said I haven't got any picys with you in so you don't have any problems then, do you. So off he toddled looking more dirty than before. I normally don't provoke exchanges like that but I'm getting sick & tired of being challenged for taking picys after our stupid government put adds on the TV about suspicious people taking photos as they could be terrorists. I might get a T shirt with the words "I'm not a Terrorist I'm a bleeding Ahrtiiiiiist" :-)

Rod, I have to ask a nagging question: do you find your new equipment is inhibiting you from grabbing such shots? I bought a used 20D when my Rebel became a Canikon and while more comfortable in the hand, it is larger and noisier and I am inhibited from using it in close quarters because it is so much more noticable. As you know Cartier-Bresson used his Leica to help him keep his invisibility. I loved my old, slow S70 because it was SILENT and small. Hardly raised an eyebrow and even if pointed directly at someone, they generally brushed it off. Recently I pointed the 20D at someone across the street and they complained. Now I'm thinking that the best tool for street shots is the Canon G series for manual control and quality (at least at lower ISOs). Want to sell your G3? -tv

I like how the floor fades so nicely from light to dark while maintaining her shadow detail. -Doug
