Ooh! Ooh! So close. Not lab equipment, but you nailed the hand and the swirling part. I'm thinking about giving it to you... still undecided. :-)

Any other guesses as to the nature of the vessel and illumination source?

Looks like lab equipment. The thing on top is a hand with index finger on top of jar. Here goes...you've swirled some precipitate in a jar and illuminated it with a dye-laser?--JC

I've been thinking about this one a lot...still no idea. Obviously you're burning something in a glass jar...but what? Is it some kind of fancy hash bottle?!
