Very good image.

Thanks Rod for the well done commentary. Today I took some more with shadows since the sun was out so this might not be over yet. -tv

I just had a look in Pending & there's a couple I like the look of, IMG 8815 works really well without having to do anything to the bushes. This picy is the one though, it just works so well.

I think you have cracked it here wiv the addition of the people walking down below Tommy. In the other picy the bushes worried me but now as me eye goes down the picy they land on the walkers & the bushes now work as you originally intended by offsetting the metal patterns but not demanding any attention. The picy now has a real balance to the eye wiv all the elements combining into a satisfying whole. Bleeding L I'm starting to sound like Tommy:-)

Thanks all for the suggestions and for the example Rod. I see your point - to obscure the bushes as much as possible. I've now put several variations in Pending including some new ones. The problem I'm trying to solve is to make this more than just a design and the bushes seemes important to offset somewhat the metal patterns of the stairs. As to cropping, I've fallen into a personal rule, i.e.: to maintain as close to the original aspect ratio as possible if I crop at all. (Why? I dunno except to hide the crop from Rod.) So I think I'll post another version from the camera and we can continue this dialog until you get bored. Hehe. -tv

Maybe just burn the bushes in Tommy. I bunged one in Pending but I noticed it was set on low quality Jpeg. If you have trouble getting your picy small enough I think you're better off downsizing to 600 on the long side rather than lower the Jpeg quality. 600 on the long side still shows up well here.

Cropping the top was my thought too Tom but I thought the ratio police would arrest me! It brings the emphasis more to the diagonals for me. :-D CJ

The b/w works best here. I think the area above the railing takes away from he patterns, though. Maybe a much tighter crop with just the steps and some of the railing in 16x9 aspect ratio . . . Hmmmm.

Yes this is better- like a sun burst - in fact has given me an idea - Debi

Thanks. Now back to the original converted to bw. -tv

The green did cheer the first picy up Tommy but I would still like to see the first one in B&W as I really liked the fan effect going to the left in that one. I think I even prefer that one in colour to this one, it just seemed to sit better.

I'm glad to keep the camera against your eye Tommy. The B/W treatment works well here. -COAmature

This is the version I was going to post but it seemed too glum. I thought the green would cheer it up and the other version had more green. -tv

I think the way the diagonals fan out tend to overcome the curves for me. How would this look in B&W Tommy to stop the green wanting my attention.
ctfchallenge13-Sep-2008 23:23
I see lots of diagonals and I like this alot. Unfortunately, the overall effect of curves is dominant though, for my eye.
