The picture is un-cropped. Perhaps it looks soft because of the guards face - this afternoon two of the guards on duty at Horse Guards were women.

I always feel sorry for these poor buggers having to stand so still. This is a nice shot, but seems a bit soft to me YB- was this a heavy crop maybe?
