I met Thelwell in '62, was invited to his home with my girlfriend. Aladdin's cave time, he had huge piles of drawings. His best work, usually horses, were as good as a David Bailey monochrome photo. He scetched me and my girlfriend, and also the infamous Mandy Rice Davies, who was a member of a local riding club. I was 16, tall dark and handsome, freckled. My lass had been in a few of his best pony cartoons, one of the few girls tall and slim, not short and fat. Would be nice to leaf through all his drawings and find ours. He also took a lot of photos to draw from. ALL of his cartoons were based on real people and events. He was one of the nice guys, unassuming, extraordinarely talented.
