Dear Danny, I am an author with a forthcoming book on depression. I would like to include your cartoon 'Lassie! Get Help!' I have contacted the New Yorker website but have no had a response to my request. The print run of my forthcoming book, titled Depression: healing emotional suffering, will be between 4,000 and 5,000 copies, publication date spring '07. The publisher, Sheldon Press in the UK [venerable but skint], will not cover pay for any images. I think personally that this is awful but I'm only the author. I would love to use your cartoon and hope you can spare a discount for authors in my position, and of course I am happy to send you the central text of my book so you can see if you want your work to be associated with it.
