Bluegill

A few years ago I dug out about a 10' x 12' area in a place that always holds water in the spring, so it would hold water longer for the frogs and tadpoles. This year we spotted at least 14 bluegill in it, which must have come from my neighbor's pond. The pond is "upstream" from my little pond and his pond overflow runs through the wetland area on our property at my request to retain the wetland. The puzzle is how did they make it about 50' through all of the cattails and brush? Anyway, I had to scoop them out and move them to the water feature I built, because we haven't had rain and several of the larger ones died due to lack of oxygen in the water. I caught 11 in my net. They're happy now. I will move them to a suitable pond at some point.

P.S., the cats are doing well. Thanks for your concern and well wishes!

Bluegills thrive in Lake Frederick - we have several fishermen that claim they are a terrific meal!

Fascinating how they move about, perhaps when the water was running. Nature in operation in your garden.
