Wavy-lined Emerald (Synchlora aerata)
The caterpillar of this moth species adorns itself with parts of the plant as camouflage from predators. Some of those brownish protrusions on its back are dead Joe-Pye Weed flower parts. Its head is at the bottom of the photo. It was about 8-10mm long.
