this is a follow up on the comments by Ms Patricia Vivar on 30 May 2010; are there any more squirrels still observed in PQE presently? Thanks. I am tracking down the spread of this invasive species in the city. Observations of squirrels in other parts of Manila and environs are most welcome. Please include date and location of observation. bkt pa kailagan na nasa manila zoo ang mga hoyop ?? kawawa sila .. k8 sbhin pa ntn na inaaalagaan cla .. but they need freedom . But always remembr .. keep them safe wherever they are . pls ....

Wow!!! what a nice pics... galing ng pagkakuha... inlibas ba ang mga animals bago picturan or kinuhanan lang ng angle na hindi maisaali ang cage?? galing naman ng gamit na camera dito pati yung pagkamanipulate sa pics.. galing.. huh... what to learn this stuff.. hehehe

A sight and smell of garbage can be sensed in every nook and cranny... And to add to my disappointment is the disappearance of a number of popular zoo fixtures. I am against zoos for obvious reasons already cited above. The lone elephant is
most heart-breaking because elephants are family-oriented and they travel great
distances, using a myriad of sounds to communicate with each other. That
elephant has lost all of its dignity and pleasure in life. With the new oceanarium
opening in Manila, an emporium of captive marine life run and profited by non-Filipinos BTW, less and less people will be going to this zoo. Less revenue means
cutting corners, and the animals' welfare is almost often where the cuts are made.
Free the animals now. One's entertainment and hobbies should not pursued at
the expense of animal welfare. Salamt Po.

Nice images Tina, I enjoyed Manila Zoo a few times, and I remember taking my first interest in bird photography there almost 3 years ago., I remember the bird man there, and his lovely daughter, very nice people... Say Hi to Romy next time you see him, wishing I was in Phils., take care.

its is quite nostalgic looking at your pictures. I remember my younger years when my family come there at least once a year. One thing that I remember quite well is the monkey island. I hope this one of the few remaining icon of manila will not succomb to real estate development. Nice pictures, keep up the good work.

We have not visited the zoo in a long while but the last time we were there, my kids were surprised to see so many animals in poor health. I believe the only kangaroo that the zoo had was no longer there. Hopefully, the newly elected officials of the city of Manila would take time out to visit the zoo and hopefully, allocate a portion of their budget to rehabilitate the zoo. If conditions are improved, this zoo would indeed be a very educational place to visit

I think this is a beautiful gallery. We nature lovers must stand together and stop all this "taking of dignity" of the animals.
I have always advocated free wild animals and that is why you only see free animals on my galleries.
Under the conditions described by you the zoo must be closed down and gods given natural beauties transferred to a place that they belong.

I had such fun taking all these photos at The Manila Zoo inspite of the smell and dirt around the zoo. The Manila Zoo is in very bad condition. I wish the city of Manila would spend money to rehabilitate this zoo and promote it so that more people can see how truly wonderful God's creatures are.
A lot of the animals look so "unhealthy". The photos that you see here are photos of the healthy looking ones. I refuse to take pictures of animals in cages or of animals that look like they are about to drop anytime soon. The ostrich may look cute but you should see it's body .... poor animal :-(
