I pretty much agree with your interpretation of high key and I really like this PP too, even though you lost some "texture worthy pixels" on the right! :-D CJ

Yup I agree, this one works the best. Love it!

Cheers, Vikas.

Of the three I've seen, I think this one works the best. -- Victor

OK! Lets go back to the original... as it was shot.
I think HI-key is when white/light colors dominate the photo
LOW-key is when black/dark colors dominate the photo
Rest is all medium key in between.
One can define and twist these basic facts to form lots of definitions and thus open door for confusion.
Contrast has nothing to do with key. Its a separate parameter. You have Hi, Med and Low contrast in Hi, Med and Low key photos forming a 3x3 matrix with 9 possibilities.
I tried hi-key high contrast, hi-key low contrast but Victor pointed out issues with both versions (thanks Victor, and I mean it). So here is Hi-key with med contrast.
The reason I did not post this initially is because personally I don't like to loose any texture worthy pixels to Blown Highlights or Darker than Dark areas.
Anyway... thanks everybody for commenting. I like all 3 versions and I think all 3 are hi-key, but meant for different tastes.

This version certainly looks more high key than the previous version, but the lighting still isn't high key. Rather the dark tones of a low key image have simply been washed out. Does that make it high key? I don't think so. One thing that really bothers me about this version is the nostrils. They are uneven and too light. Of course, this is from the processing. I preferred the previous version, by the way. -- Victor

I like this shot. I won't comment on whether it's high key or not since I'm still working on the concept myself. ~dtallakson

Thanks Bob, Nico, RK, Trav, CJ!! Thanks for the feed back.
I liked the original version too, however it may not be fitting for this challenge.
CJ, I like the gradient too :-)

I don't know if it's the amount of contrast and brightness that makes the difference, but this seems to be more high-key to me, although I really liked the first version too! I like the gradient of from pure white on the right to the pinker tones on the left - good PP Cat and a terrific image! :-) CJ

I will take a contrarian view on this...the first version was better and, unless you want to disqualify the header images and CJ's dog....perfectly appropriate. I ask for it's rightful return (smile) Traveller

Yes, this is much better for the topic. -RK

Wow... version two is even better than version one... and feels very "high-key" to me. :-) Compliments and regards Nico
Canon DSLR Challenge16-Jun-2008 03:42
Certainly according to my thinking, this certainly qualifies as high key. There are no dark tones (beyond mid grey) in this?

~ Regards Bob
Canon DSLR Challenge15-Jun-2008 22:07
Any better? Would this qualify?

Canon DSLR Challenge15-Jun-2008 21:59
oh! My! Hmmm... I hear ya all :-) I might have just a tad bit more contrast here ;-)
Let's see what I can do about it.
Bob and all, I missed the last "aged" challenge, so was trying to fit one in here ;-)

This would have been perfect for the 'old' category LOl, but I don't
think it's high key

Stunning image, Cat. (But probably not as I would have interpreted 'high key' either.) But stunning nevertheless. Regards Nico

Victor.. have been debating that too... Its a great picture, but comes across as high contrast than high key.

I this high key or high contrast? -- Victor
Canon DSLR Challenge14-Jun-2008 16:13
This would have been good for the previous challenge too Cat? Terrific!
