Nikon certainly do the 'lens cap thing' much better than Canon. It is a real pain in the A__e to get to the lens cap with a 'hooded' lens especially the L series unless you have fingers about ten inches long.
All of my gear is Canon but Nikon certainly do some things a lot better. Anyway, not to create a fuss about such trivial things, this is a good post.
Lydia, of course I pay special attention to avoid any contact between the Nikon lens cap and any Canon parts; therefore, I have put a Sigma lens with a Hoya filter in between as a buffer ;-)

It does not really hurt, Mark. I am not a friend of Canon-against-Nikon controversies; I have used both systems. In fact, I love Nikon lens caps, they have a stronger grip and I can more easily attach them even with a lens hood mounted. Gerald
