Thanks all. This is also an elementary school that apparently has no sense of direction - much like the US government. -tv

Interesting. My daughters' elementary school had a map just like that, visible from planes coming in for a landing here in Austin until the airport was moved. One major difference, though: north on the map was actually north. Here, the map is nearly upside-down. It makes me wonder if it was done that way for a reason. -- Victor

Creative, not hokey, I think. The stark shadows with the bright paint make for an effective contrast.

LOL... no, not hokey. I think I'd like that title better than this, actually, if it weren't for what that would say about the 'state of the Union'. :) ~Lydia

Lydia, originally I was going to title it: "Tattered Umbrella" from the shape of the upside down map. The crack makes the handle and stem, and the position and shape of the shadow it like someone hanging on with both hands in a rough storm. Hokey, huh? -tv

This is really a fascinating photo. I do like the crack. I would prefer it, I think for the human shadow to be one or two steps to the right... with the gate latch shadow balancing out the human shadow. But, I don't know how you'd accomplish that without a tripod shadow gumming up the works. I like it. I do.

I like the unexpected color after my eye gets through examining the shadow areas. The map reminds me of how loved ones of returning military guys would stand on the huge map of the USA in their particular state making it easier for them to find each other. Very cool image, Tom. ~Lydia

Tommy, I looked at this last night before I went to bed and thought it was nice. I just now looked at it again after some morning coffee and suddenly noticed the crack- well seen and taken!

Yes, I agree: well seen and well taken. Love to know a bit more about what/where this is? Regards Nico

Actually, the more I look at it, the more I Love it.

Cheers, Vikas.

WOW I really like this shot... the shadow in the centre with the crack seemingly emanating from the shadow's head and bisecting the US map..... very very very cool. So well seen and taken.

Cheers, Vikas.
