1000 Points of Light

Mount Shasta California

Sunrise peeks over a high mountain ridge
illuminating thousands of flowers

these are Western Anemones (anemone occidentalis)
. . . I like to call them "Truffula Trees"
(see link below for closeup)

They grow above treeline in extremely rocky soil -
their growing/flowering period is fleeting as
winter ends only just before it begins at this
elevation. Depending on the year they often do not
bloom until mid August. A month after this shot was taken they

bravely holding up to the first snow, then a few days
after that they were flattened
