The lighthouse

The lighthouse shines in the afternoon sun,
Almost as though it knows the job is not done.
Old and abandoned,
Left for modern times,
Wants nothing better,
Than to be released from its confines.
Where is the lightkeeper,
Who climbed those stairs so many times?
Why doesn't the light shine its beam at night,
To let mariners know their voyage is alright?
What of the fresh paint needed on walls,
That have started to crumble and fall?
Why is it today, our history means less,
And our beautiful lighthouses,
Are fading fast.

Uhhh.. considering that I found this lighthouse via GPS in my car, you are absolutely right. Thanks Naj. Best wishes. Sam Attal

Differnetial GPS is the answer to the riddle Sam. So long as there is not a defence alert (greater than 2nd Amber), GPS (which is provided mostly by American satelites) with give you a very good position indication. It is more useful than lighthouses because lighthouses require a fair degree of navigation training to understand fully, whereas GPS shows a picture of a boat on a TV screen. So, many people with boats these days can knott be bothered learning the hard stuff and rely on their GPS. This is a tripple edged sword. More boater means improved marina facilities, but also more incidents and therefore higher insurance premiums, finally, an not really related to lighthhouses, more amazing photos of what boaters without a clue get up to, eg: (sorry about the pop-ups, just ignore them)http://www.strangedangers.com/content/item/127132.html
