To clarify my salvage comment. The photo is as I intended it. The problem was that I forgot I had the camera set with -2 stops exposure compensation, so it was 2 stops underexposed. I was able to reduce the noise substantially by combining two frames and essentially painting the background. I'll consider redoing the background as suggested. However, I note that there is already a gradient, the dark portion being the grass. -- Victor

I really like this, this is a forward sentry for the following army about to pour themselves over the boundary and into the field to ravage and plunder!

Great capture Victor. My suggestion (for what it is worth?) is that the background might work more dramatically if it had a contrast gradient applied... giving it a more 3D feel.

Love the texture of the fence and you captured the little 'spring loaded muncher' very well. ~ Regards Melbob

Yes, I never saw this as a, "Salvage," either. I thought this was always your intent...and remarkably well done also. A Clean, clean representation for this specific challenge. Best wishes, Traveller

Unfortunately, on the other side is a brick wall -- the green grass is actually on the camera side. I tried a color version, using another photo of grass bokeh, but it looked contrived. -- Victor

I think it's a remarkable salvage attempt Victor. If it wasn't for your comment in the challenge thread, I would never have guessed this was a 'salvage'. It works fabulously in b&w and your title fits to perfection.

Now you've mentioned the lush green grass on the other side, I find myself imagining how equally stunning this would look in colour. Regards -Najinsky
