(..vivere non est necesse).

A home-made propeller-hang-glider-dinghy-thingy.

As for which challenge, I had none in mind while shooting, but was *mostly* thinking of C24, "photoGRAPHIC", when uploading.

It does definitely not fit challenge 57: I Ate This.

Under doubt, it might fit some of these though:

C22: Flight / C35: Negative Space / C52: Nautical / C90: UFO

other sizes: small medium original auto

Thank you Jim. Glad you noticed the gleam on the prop. That was one reason for picking this, a hint of a third dimension and color. The other reason was the gliders shape here: Looks like a folded sail, not a hangglider. Which makes the thought of this construction flying at all even more absurd. Like bumble bees: By design they shouldn't really be able to fly, but they don't know that - so they fly anyway.

I think the colors you created and the reflection from the prop along with the overall silhouette look is just fantastic. A wonderful composition too! Jim H.

You guys are too nice - thank you for commenting; Bruce, jconradie, Julie.

Olav/Traveller: I read Olav's description of his Lightship in C52 long ago, and found it very interesting. This shot does have a resemblance: High contrast and "strings". Olav's picture did cross my mind, but Beatles "yellow submarine" also lurked when choosing color, as well as hour and season. It's shot at 8 PM but with auto WB. While Olav did the magic in camera, I faked it. Setting a high color temperature *in DPP* was how the initial yellow here came to be. Saturation is later increased in PS. Apart from downsizing and a tiny crop, that's all. It's not sharpened for instance, which tends to make jagged lines.

But it's a lucky shot, all right:
After travelling all day, by car, train, bus and ferry, I finally arrived 30 minutes earlier and had just attached the 400mm and settled down on a bench outside when an alarming noise emerged. For a split second I feared it was a helicopter in distress. And then this creature appeared.

The extreme contrast is because I'm slow and stupid. I didn't have the alertness to tweak EC or anything during the seconds it took to shoot the first series. Center focus point and "one shot" focus was activated, so I concentrated entirely on tracing the thing. And that or those mistakes worked like charm for a this construction.

He took a second round, further away, a minute later. Had the sense to tweak EC for those, but the angle was less appealing, and the shots partly cluttered with a background island.

(PS: Added link to another version at bottom of the caption for this image. A bit more "3D" and a little less "graphic".)

Which was won by whom, Now? Let me put on my thinking cap....Who could have won the Nautical Challenge?....LOL....Nice to see you Olaf. Now, as to the question at hand, how did each of you get that color? Best Wishes, Traveller

Definitely some resemblance to the winning shot in the Nautical challenge... Did the yellow stem from a very high color temperature (K or Kelvin) setting?

Kiki, I like it. What a shame you can't enter it in the 'I Ate This' challenge. Julie

Wonderful... Bruce said it perfectly - 100% agreed that subject, composition and colour work together solidly. Regards jnconradie

I really like this. It gives you just enough to wonder what crazy person would take to the air in this craft. Dramatic lighting . . . madcap subject. It comes together rather well. -- Bruce
