I didn't see this before the crop. But whatever, this really works well. The exposure and focus are both just perfect. His expression does seem very stern indeed and I don't want to tangle with those claws! Having tried a few shots of birds like this, I'm really impressed with this shot. Jim H.

Like your idea Sam so I recropped and changed the composition. This shows less bright leaves and focuses more on the bird. I like it better. Thanks for the idea. Ann C

I like this Ann. I like how the tree frames the bird. I just wonder how it would look if you crop part of the right and upper photo and have the eagle nestled in the right upper corner, looking toward the blue space to the left. Best wishes. Sam Attal

Ann, this is very good indeed. It looks like an Australian Sea Eagle. Am I correct, or is there another bird of prey so similar?

Most impressive, Ann. I also have to confess that I have never been able to get anything nearly as good as this of such a magnificent bird. Well done. Regards jnconradie

Thanks everybody. I found out he was there when I heard his scream. He was being harassed by a crow and finally flew off down the lake. He and his mate have a nest not far from the park. Last year they had two babies. This year they have to rebuild as the winter winds destroyed much of their nest. Not sure if we'll have chicks again this year or not. My favorite part of this picture - the claws around the branch and the stern expression. :) Ann C

Knew this was yours the instant I saw it. Beautiful capture. Let me see, the most majestic bird I can capture here would be a robin or a cardinal. That's not the same league as this.
