Elena, this is a superb shot and I like it much better without the hand. Julie

Thanks for your thoughts. :) This time, I happen to be viewing it with my office light off, and there is brightness streaming in from the kitchen window, far to my right. Viewing the image like this, with the lighting in the room virtually matching the lighting in the image, makes it even more extraordinary! It is suuuuuuuch a fine, fine image (and I do love it without the hand)! ~ Lonnit

It did not work with "part" hand and I did not have time today to play in PS to make the hand smaller...I will look at it again sometime.E

Actually, this is where I would have cropped the image...entirely above the hand. My fear was that we might be getting into Sally Mann Territory where a photograph may be appropriate in a gallery context, but possibly not here.

I do love the first version for its open honesty and somewhat awkwardness of the hand, but this is quite effective also.

Best Wishes, Traveller

So you removed the whole hand, huh? If thoust hand dost offend thee, lop it off? LOL! I do think the hand added a lovely feminine touch. I guess you felt you preferred it without any hand? I'm curious about your thinking on that. It is so beautiful this way too. ~ Lonnit

Human hands ARE big - about the same size as the face! I don't doubt this is her own hand, but I agree there is something odd about it. I believe it to be the position of the hand combined with the framing. Excellent light and expression - a wonderful portrait!

It is Weird, but Lonnit is right....the complete hand does seem...not hers and that is a bit disconcerting. Index finger crop does work. Best Wishes, Traveller

Elena, as usual, your portrait is simply outstanding...almost magical. The light in her eye is very special. BTW I agree with Lonnit's comment about the hand.

this jumped off the screen - I just had to know whose it was. Of course, it was yours, Elana. Yeesh!!!

One thing, though... her hand is a bit large for her size, making it seem almost like it's not her own, which is a bit unnerving. If you crop between the index and middle finger (which means actually cutting off a bit of the bottom half of that index finger so none of the space between the fingers shows), if very much supports the delicate beauty of the child and image. Excellent work as usual. :) ~ Lonnit
