Hmmm... this could work accurately on any other planet too as long as it has 1 sun, since its purely based on the rotation, revolution and angle of axis. Except the unit of time might be different!

You have done it again Victor.... yes this is an Armillary sphere sundial:-

Armillary sphere sundials, modeled on the celestial or terrestrial sphere, are constructed from three or more interlocking rings which provide support for the rod-like gnomon, which forms the axis of the sphere, and casts the time-telling shadow on the equatorial ring.

The green ring with Roman Numerals is the 'equatorial ring'.

lol Melbob. My dad calls them "paperweights". Could be something naval.. or perhaps the brake handle of an old tram?
