Cat- don't blame yourself too much ;) there is some water in there too...

The difference in boiling sugar bubbles is quiet significant, this shot was taken at an advanced stage when the mesh is already very sticky, and those are very slow bubbles.

Sugar... AGGRRHH now how would one guess liquid sugar in a B/W photo...
nicely done, I came up to water but could not go beyond it... -Cat

SOLUTION:

ok... before this gets completely out of control and you would really start to believe that this is an alien with a million eyes here is the solution:

Last week we had some guests and I helped in the kitchen to make a merengue cake. Part of the recipe was to prepare a caramel for decoration.

So what you see in the photo are bubbles of boiling sugar, in a non-stick pan.... taken with a macro lens and converted to B&W..!

BTW - loved all the guesses!! Thanks all.

Ori

I reakon... frogs eggs waiting to become tadpoles so they can escape or perhaps 'alphabet soup'?... but then they look a bit like ... red blood corpuscles... or maybe discarded donuts from that well known place?... no.... on closer scrutiny.... they look more like.... yes.... they are peroxided rubber "O" rings from a miniature hose fitting factory! .... but then.... I could be wrong! ... but I bet it is the result of "Global Warming"? ~Melbob

It's zillions of little balls of mercury. You shouldn't be playing with mercury like this. It's dangerous (not to mention expensive). -- Victor

Mr. X: I didn't say laundry was a gender issue.. I consider it to be a wash-issue only. I thought of laundry because the texture behind the bubbles reminds me of denim.. As far as 'noses' go, it was just an old observation from IRC. Haven't been there for nearly a decade.. I guess typing habits are forever changing. And it certainly is more efficient to type smilies without the nose :)

7-up or soda water?
Debbi

Kiki - Bokeh thanks to a macro lens in low light and wide aperture. Post process: nothing but B&W and USM... about the smily couldn't be more wrong, man smilies do not have a nose. And since when woman do laundry in this century any more?

This reminds me of Victor's LED from Exhibition in challenge 80 (bokeh). But the post processing reminds me of Debbis "Dial M"... etc. in Movie Titles. The smiley from X is female though - male smilies usually have noses. Tiny air bubbles raising from laundry in a sink of water?

Thanks Sharon - although your guess is not close....:)

Fantastic image! I am guessing some sort of fungus or plant skin with water droplets in the indentations. Very curious! It does appear to be watching me! ~Sharon
