Zen

The Human Route

Coming empty-handed, going empty-handed -- that is human.
When you are born, where do you come from?
When you die, where do you go?
Life is like a floating cloud which appears.
Death is like a floating cloud which disappears.
The floating cloud itself originally does not exist.
Life and death, coming and going, are also like that.
But there is one thing which always remains clear.
It is pure and clear, not depending on life and death.

Then what is the one pure and clear thing?

Very interesting and thought provoking image Sharon. The only distracting element to me are the folds of fabric under your arm with the light reflecting off them drawing my eye. Knowing you are the "crop queen" [ ;-)], did you consider cropping out most of those folds? Love the reflections in the sphere! CJ

Beautifully done and a very touching visual interpretation of the words, Sharon. Care to share how you did the sphere? For the record, I find your breast very zen (that just plain didn't come out right, but you know what I mean...please say you know what I mean :-). -Michael

Wonderful idea! :)

Have you tried to totally darken out the shirt? so it'll be like two hands coming in from no where. And a centered composition would work nicely too.

Sharon's breast distracting....Well!....Hummmm...at first I was going to defend Sharon's Breast, but, upon careful reflection, Lee may have a point...but regardless this is a wonderful image and will get one of my votes. Best Wishes, Traveller

Thanks, Sam and Lee! Lee, I agreed with your comment and have darkened that portion of the image. The original is here:http://www.pbase.com/elips/image/72747965 Is this better or should it be darker still? I tried a crop but the image lost the sense of a person sitting in meditation and became very abstract with just the hands and ball. As for the room, the reflection is misleading as it doesn't show all the clutter, definitely not a room in your house, I only wish it were, lol! ~Sharon

Sharon, I love it. But the lighting on your breast seems distracting. (said with a straight face) May want to consider cropping or darken.

Looks like a room in my house. 8-)

I see, instead of empty hands, caring and tender hands protecting a small precious world. I like it. Sam Attal.

Thanks Nugar and Julie! I used the the timer on the camera which gave me enough time to compose myself, so to speak, although it took many tries to get it right! ~Sharon

Very clever interpretation of empty-handedness and floatedness. You are such a thoughtful person and such an artistic genius. Well placed in the frame. I know most of your images show you as the subject. If this is so in this image, how did you press the shutter?

Beautiful photo, beautiful words.
