After you pointed out that it was not a composite, I could see that it was a gondola with a painted bow. Prior to that, it just didn't register. Interesting how now we are so used to photoshop that we are more prone to assume post effect over in-camera. I think it was the sharp lines of the frame that really threw me, along with the lack of motion blur in the painting - which, of course, now makes sense, since it would have been traveling along with you at the same speed, and the tip of the bow had the ability to sway side to side, causing it's blur. Quite excellently done, and thank you for correcting us, instead of letting us believe it was a simple PS effect. Your study paid off well. :) ~ Lonnit

Thanks Lonnit and no problem Markjay!

These Gondolas have images depicting Venice scenes painted in the bow walls.
As soon as I saw the one in ours, I thought it would be neat if I could get a slowsync shot that mimecked it a gosthly way, by capturing the surrounding scenes.
I tried to apply what I had learned in the past months and used one of the 2 second-hand 550s and the ST-E2 I had bought recently.

It took 4 attempts to get it the way I wanted it at this particular part of the city:

Later on, near the Rialto bridge, I've managed to get another nice shot.

Which makes it way more impressive! I don't blame you for being touchy about it. ~ Lonnit

Ermmm...this is NOT a compilation of 2 images.
This is a single image, captured in "slowsync", first curtain, with the camera in one hand and a 550EX in the other hand, triggered by an ST-E2. S
Sorry, but I am VERY touchy about this, since this photo has an enormous meaning to me.
It is not a composite or a fluke. It is the product of about about 6 months of reading and self learning about flash photography and getting equipped to apply it.
At the location, it was fully planned and took me about 6 or 8 tries to get the original right.
The post processing was directed to enhance the golden tones and did not add anything more, compositionally-wise, to the photo.

Is this a compilation of two images. Personally, I really love the gold tones and the surreal feeling of the iamge as it is shown on the right side but, together it is definately different and "dream like". Markjay
