Yes, the composition was deliberate. The structure is a long jetty which is arched at the closer end and it leads to a straight section about where the people are standing. I stood slightly to one side when shooting the image.

Hi Julie. Eye-catching indeed! I hope this is not some really stupid question, but I cannot quite figure out the geometry of the structure/picture. At first glance it looks very symmetrical, but towards the bottom (closer end) of the shot, there is quite a different between left and right. Is that because of the angle at which held the camera when you took the shot? Was this intentional? Compliments ~jnconradie
