Lets go on a ride!

It was a very nice sunny day. I drove around in search for a Bokeh. Here is my second attempt!

Dear Sam and Sharon, I read both your comments/replies with much interest. Sam, thanks for accepting the comments in such a positive spirit. After having been back for the a few re-visits and now that I know the "story behind the story", I am delighted to let you know that the picture kind-of "grows on me", if there is such an expression. You did well to capture what you had intended to portray; I was probably just not "getting it"! :-) :-) Warm regards ~jnconradie

Thanks jnconradie for the constructive criticism. I do see and appreciate your point, very gently articulated. The only way to explain my intensions is to tell the story. The day was sunny and warm, unseasonable for Michigan during this time of the year. I drove around in this small convertible but felt lonely for no good reason. I wanted to covey this feeling of what I failed to capture (joy, happiness, etc...). I thought that the missing people who should be enjoying this fast toy car may, by not being there, say something. Also, I wanted the dull brown background colors to contrast with the sharp car lines and vivid bright colors to further emphasize the contrast. And, finally, I also wanted to show some Bokeh so I can learn from Sharon's instructions (thanks Sharon for your kind tolerance and comments). This photo is sure is not in the same league as some of ones surrounding it, but it is my humble attempt, and your critic is crucial for my development, so I again thank you. Sam Attal.

Thanks, Sam! I see what Nico is saying but I don't think the lack of "connectedness" bothers me that much. I see it as a photo of a car out for a drive and there is out-of-focus background going by, I can make out trees and maybe a pond. A fun composition! ~Sharon

Dear Sam, I like this "second attempt" as well. Please allow me the following comment (which I trust you will read as sincerely intended to be constructive only): On the positive side: the car is of course beautiful and superbly captured; the composition is interesting and eye-catching; the background is splendidly out-of-focus and demonstrates your ability to procude a "pleasant" bokeh, at least in my opinion. On the flips-side, what detracts for me from the shot is that I perceive a lack of "connectedness" between the car and the background. It reminds of two different pictures, telling different stories, but made into a composite. I guess I am looking for some method of tying the the two "parts" of the photograph into each other... to create a unified picture. I am sorry, this is somewhat rambling, and my thoughts probably did not come across clearly. Looking forward to your comments and - even more importantly - many more of your super posts! :-) Kind regards ~jnconradie
