Jim, You can return to this place as many times as you like; but, please, do not get inside. We like you and your work. LOL. Just fantastic. Sam Attal.
I thought about moving things a bit, but to get the "thirds" I really wanted to have the two areas of purple sort of sit right at the two lower points. It does make for a somewhat odd composition.
This is one of those places that I tend to return to. This building is slowly disintegrating and it's in a naturally very beautiful spot. I drove up to the mountain on Friday afternoon/evening just hoping for a nice, purple sunset. I ended up driving all around, looking for a good scene where I could wait for the "purple hour".
It was really hard to choose a place to stay because it's just so hard to know where will end up being decent between the sunset colors and the scenery. But this old heap just seems to have a lot of character.
This shot was taken looking more or less to the east - perhaps east-southeast, with the sun setting behind me. It was hard to decide which way to look :)
What you see in the background on the right is a valley between Casper Mtn. and Muddy Mtn. The hillside where this relic sits is fairly steep and from the road that runs along the ridge (to our left), you can easily miss seeing this old structure.
I need to spend more sunsets up on different places on the mountain. I know that there are a million opportunities up there where the sunsets or sunrises must be spectacular!
Where do you find these super-spectacular places? :-) The old building and the wide scenery makes for a real visual treat. (Perhaps the building would have worked better in an off-centre position..?) Compliments, Jim. Regards ~jnconradie
