Really! The edge is so abrupt, and disconnected from the rest. The one under the opposite nostril is so broad. It actually made me wonder if it were, perhaps, artificial smoke, added in post. Apparently not. Still a fantastic image! What is the source of the smoke? ~ Lonnit

The veil of smoke...I like the originality and exposure of the image. Interesting how the model's head and the smoke emerges from darkness.

Thank you everyone; really really appreciate your extremely kind comments.

Lonnit, as Victor correctly explained, the smoke is curling around his nostrils and then wafting upwards; in all there are only 5 smoke trails from 5 origins.

Thanks Victor for the explanation which is of course, completely accurate.

Nico... :-D Yes indeed he was quite gone from the smoke..... gone to a land far far away. ;-)

Cheers, Vikas.

Fantastic Shot, I don't know if it conveys the theme of the challenge, but I find it one of the best photographs submmited regardless :)

... that far-off gaze in his eyes works fabulously, Vikas. Whatever the smoke might have contained, it looks like he inhaled too much and is now far, far, gone! :-) Splendidly done. Regards ~jnconradie

Five for me starts at the bottom and finishes with whatever results from the freedom of smoke. Outstanding. A sure winner, IMO. shu

Lonnit, That is just a continuation of the plume that wafts over the model's lip, then under his nose, then, emerging from the shadow of his nose, turns into the plume you're describing. It's not a 6th plume, it's just one of the 5 crossing from lightness, to shadow and back again. -- Victor

Phenom, Vikas! One glitch for me, though; what's with the one that starts out as a drop of milk below his nose and then trails upwards and expands? Alas, but, technically, that would be the sixth stream of smoke. ;) But that's not why it bugs me, it bugs me because it originates from nowhere. Other than that, this is a flawless and outstanding image! ~ Lonnit

Wonderful portrait Vikas - strange, moody, seductive and mesmerising! I wish the smoke was only around the contours of the face and eyes though! CJ

Awesome photo, Vikas. I don't know how you did this, but I love the way the smoke curls around the contours of his face, which seems to be just floating there.
