painted rocks

Manitou Springs, CO

These rocks were the first thing that I saw as the sun rose the morning I rolled into Manitou (the Great Spirit) Springs, CO for the first time. Coming from smoggy L.A., where the only geology is sand and gravel, these rocks were a mind blower. I stayed in Manitou for four years before moving to Black Forest.

Nico - Thanks for the nice comment. The word 'colorado' in Spanish means, roughly translated: red-like, reddish, or colorful. There are many rock formations that ARE *almost* this colorful, but these rocks are really more of a maroon and beige-yellow striped. The magenta in the upper right and here and there is the result of adding blue to the original in PP. Warm regards, -mikey

I have been remiss in posting a comment here: it is beautiful, colourful and very interesting, Michael. Nicely captured. Was the purple-ish colour for real, or as a result of post-processing. It looks nearly too intense to be real, but then again I have no clue what rocks in Colorado look like, not so! :-) ~jnconradie
