Thanks guys. I can't take the credit for ALL the reflections - I noticed the big, main one, and that's what I concentrated on; the others were all bonuses! I did make sure I tended to them in processing though, to be sure they didn't fade back. ~ Lonnit

Good idea, and well-executed. --Melanie (mlynn)

Really lovely handling of the chrome and a wild idea for you to be reflected in all the major surfaces. -Michael

LOL! Thanks. I did win first place in a legs contest once. Don't know if it was really the legs that won it... might have been the grand finale when I cartwheeled into a split and the audience went wild! LOL! ~ Lonnit

Hm, somehow I think this shot would look much worse had I done it in heels and a skirt. This might be to you being a great photog or to you having great legs. Probably both. #sigh#

;)
Cheers

As for cropping, I have a personal rule that I don't like to crop anything down to a point that it couldn't be printed at a decent size, so all major cropping has to be done in camera. This challenge was for a "found" abstract - hence a bit of a dilemma; As I stood next to the bike, looking to see which part I wanted to get in close to for a nice, tight, abstract, I spotted my legs in the reflection. When I spotted them, they happened to be precisely where I would have positioned them, had I been intentionally inserting them into the image, and I was also quite happy that the skirt did not show. All I did was to simply cross my right foot over my left, without moving my left, and voila'! Had I moved closer to get a tighter crop on any of the parts, I would have lost the reflection, which is what I believe is the heart of the image, the thing that makes it unique.

I guess, what I could have done, would be to select 3 or 4 seperate sections of the image and arrange them in a row, column, or box as a triptych or quadtych, which would then give me a full sized print image.

With due respect to Bob and Bill, I wouldn't recommend cropping it down to one or two of the abstracted sections. That would eliminate the sense of the motorcycle from which the image was born. There are three locations in which the curvature of the motorcycle's components changes, such that the image of your legs is cut off. As a result, we don't get to see what you are wearing. I am sure that you did that on purpose, moving around the bike until you found the right spot. You've created a sense of mystery that stimulates the viewer's curiosity. Making the viewer want to go back and look again is what turns mere "abstract" into "abstract art." Very well done.

I am with Bob. Choose one abstracted section. Bill.

Thanks, Doct. suprised you recognized the legs though, they're looking kind of short & stubby due to the convexitudeness of the reflection, and the upper right set looks a bit too skinny. The upper left has them totally distorted. Hmmmm.... perhaps they've appeared in too many pix if you can recognize them so distorted! LOL! ~ Lonnit

The self-portrait aspect was certainly part of it, but I can usually pick your entries even when you're only behind the camera. ;^) It's hard to put my finger on it, but there's something that combines imagination with good technique that I find in your photographs. And besides, I've seen those legs before. 8^) -Doctah

Oh, BTW, Doctah, was it the self-portrait aspect of it that was the give-away, or was there something else? I'm just curious. I'm still trying to pinpoint what exactly my style is! LOL! Thanks. ~ Lonnit

OH! Thank you all soooo much. I just love all your responses! I spotted this bike and thought to myself, "Hmmm... what interesting things can I find in here to shoot?", and I instantly found ME! LOL! ;) The second I spotted my legs, I crossed them and started shooting. Conveniently, I'm on a skirt kick lateley, and I always wear heels. What I liked about this is that it's a pretty rare thing to find b/c female photogs are in the minority, and how many of them shoot vehicles? I thought this was a very "guy" shot, with a feminine touch. I'm so glad you all like it! ~ Lonnit

I like this Lonnit, you have posted an interesting approach to this topic. This image has in fact many separate and disparate abstracts. Any one of those 'mini-Lonnits' would make an interesting composition in their own right. For instance, if you took the image in the cover plate above the exhaust pipe (top left) that would make a great abstract and so too for the images in the lower pipe. Well done ~ Bob
