This image is a poster child for the reason one needs to click on the thumbnail and look at the original posted version. I know what the image *is* from the thumbnail, but I would have missed all of the fabulous nuances without looking at the original. Fantastic textures, eye relections, nuances of color...well done. -Michael
Found a good explanation to the "Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up." line:
"In the classic film Sunset Boulevard , aging silent movie star Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson) is fixated on a return to stardom. Firm in her delusions that her fans miss her and that Paramount Studios still revolves around her popularity, she sees cameras called to report a murder as being present to film her in a comeback role she's written for herself. As the film rolls, the thoroughly crazy actress holds her chin high, looks into the lenses surrounding her, and says to an absent director, "All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up.""
A faded older woman lost in her delusional world, her young bought lover lying dead in the swimming pool in the dark of night, police milling about, her first husband still loving her deeply...ready's her for a grand entrance and close up.
For me, this is just human beings being human beings...there is nothing remarkable here but for the illusions that control of our existence.
The DeMille reference is of Cecil B. DeMille, the eary to mid-20th centruy film director, and the line is lifted from the movie, Sunset Blvd.
It really has nothing to do with this image except for the close up reference. These suckers are fast and skittery...I have maybe 15 shots, many are out of focus, lack DOF....it was just a problem getting a good image of these critters...but this one is Okay.
