This is the meter face of a radiation survey meter. It is actually a modern meter but they haven't changed the meter movements they use for 30 years as far as I can tell so they've got a neat "retro" look to them. They're also very rugged, practical, and easy to read as it happens, so I hope they don't ever change the design.
The face is actually graduated in µR/hr and on the X1 scale this is the "background" reading for gamma radiation in my home office. That's pretty darn low. 8 µR/hr is about as low as I ever read anywhere around here. So I guess I'm safe :)
I took the photo, cloned out the original scale legends and then imported the photo into Corel Draw. In there, I added the new text and then I exported the three resulting images as JPGs. Back in Photoshop, I did a bit more tweaking and resized the photos down and saved them as JPGs again.
If I knew what I was doing, I might have been able to do it all in Photoshop, but I've got a lot more years of experience with Corel Draw, so that made it easy. Jim H.
