Are you on a Mac or a PC? On a PC, press the Printscreen button while the forum is loaded. Then in PS, Ctrl-V (paste) into an image. If you don't have an image open already, select New from the File menu, and PS will create a new one sized to match your screen size. When you paste, you get a new layer with the captured screen. You can then use an eyedropper to select the color. Or you can clone it or select an area, since it's now a layer in PS. -- Victor

Talk about color! (My face is red!) My eyesight is failing....I hope I can continue with photography since so much rides on the fine detail in images.) Thank you Victor!!! How do I match the forum background color in PS???? I know this sounds like a stupid question, but some of us still have a lot to learn. shu

Shu, You extended the image with near-black (by the way, the black you used doesn't match the black you pasted next to. It's a bit redder. Just use the forum background color instead. -- Victor

Will someone help me bring the bubble "out" into the gray area of the challage background page? Vic's version has the bubble slightly extending into page which makes the image look much more realistic as concerns "out." I don't know how to achieve this. I've seen other images with the technique applied and liked it. Thanks, shu

Vic--Hope the storm has passed! Thanks for your lesson. I have done the best I can and this is the result. Go ahead, critique if you wish!!! shu

Due to a storm that went through early today, I don't currently have internet access at home. If this goes through (I'm using a neighbor's wireless connection), here is basically what I did.

I noticed that the bubble looks about right at about the 2 o'clock position to fill in the missing piece. I took a selection and then rotated it using the crop tool. Then I pasted it as a new layer and adjusted levels and/or curves with an appropriate selection to match the lower part of the bubble as closely as possible. I then pasted another layer, which was a screenprint of this page, so that it would have the right color background, and carefully crafted a layer mask to match the bottom of the bubble. That's basically it, although there was a bit of tweaking.

If you want to use my version, just save it on your computer and then upload it over yours. If you want to get rid of more of the black, you're on your own (or maybe someone else will help out). -- Victor (crossing fingers that this will post)

VICTOR YOOHOO!!! This looks great! Tell me, kind sir, how did you do it? I think it would look even better if no black bar was at the bottom of the image. If you care to, email me with instructions on how to shape the bubble at the bottom, eliminate the black bar and show the image "coming out" into the challenge background. (Even better, just upload your version into this spot. LOL) Thanks for the inspiration and for your enthusiasm too, Sharon! shu

Neat idea, Shu! Do you think you could do what Victor did? I think it would make the image that much more fun! ~Sharon

I played with the picture a little bit. This is close to what I was expecting. Of course, this depends upon the background color, or else it had to be transparent. Feel free to delete this post after you've seen it, shu. -- Victor

I'm a bit disappointed. But maybe not. As I glanced at the picture, I hoped the bottom of the bubble went outside of the picture frame. Alas, it doesn't. In fact, it's flat there. I think this would have been better had it extended barely out of the frame as it appears to do at first glance. Again, maybe not. I'm of two minds on this. -- Victor P.S. I'm also intrigued by the shapes in the reflections, particularly right in the center.

"Out" refers to the bubble floating out of the image (at least I think it looks that way). shu

Well, I particularly like the framing and the black line across the bottom of the image. Mondrian-ish. But I don't really get the title? Best Wishes, Traveller
