Up in Arms *

Since Lonnit/ISO were doing self portraits, thought I would try my hand at it too. :-) Didnt realise how tough it is to take one's own pic which makes me appreciate self portraits all the more.

Those sure are surreal biceps. I can't see the wrinkles in question but it certainly doesn't detract from an exemplary image. ~kt

Phil: THANK YOU for pointing that out, I see it now (gosh, my eyes must need a check up or is it age? :-) Thanks, have corrected it, do let me know if okay now. Appreciate your help in this regard.

Sharon, thank you! :-)

Cheers, Vikas.

Great concept, beautifully carried out, as usual! I love your work! ~Sharon

Vikas
It's on the left side, not the right, immediately beside your biceps.

Hi Phil, checked again now from home the shirt on the right is fine, its just the wrinkles in the shirt, no PP done on that side or on the shirt at all. Cheers, Vikas.

Hi Michael, thanks for your comments, appreciate it. Yes, purposely went with the symmetry in this one, did try with different things in each hand but didnt work for me hence this shot. Cheers, Vikas
PS: The real Vikas certainly wishes that he had 4 arms, would help him accomplish a lot more ;-)

Traveller thank you for your comments...... incidentally had to especially get this shirt made to accomodate the extra arms. :-) Cheers, Vikas.

Phil, thanks a lot for your candid comments and really appreciate the same. Agree 100% that this is far from my best; its just a fun shot and something that I havent done before so was enjoying it and hence put it in the challenge. Regarding the shirt, I probably did mess up (my PS skills are limited to enhancing and correcting photographs; not too good at this kind of stuff unfortunately); will check again at home as my office LCD isn't the best to check details. Will try and repost after correcting any anomalies there. Thanks for pointing it out.

Cheers, Vikas.

Thanks Victor, will check out the Lunar calender for the eclipse info for New Delhi/India and look out for it.
LOL: yes indeed, was looking at the camera but it was more a question of getting the weights ready and in position; those are a lot heavier than they look, (20kgs each, i.e. 44 pounds each dumbell) and this was my 15th or 16th try for this shot so was getting a bit frustrated with the whole exercise (pun intended). :-)
Yup a ring on my index finger, thought of cloning it out and then let it be. Just recently started wearing it; its a yellow saphire and is supposed to be worn only on the index finger; presumably for general well being and prosperity ;-)
Cheers, Vikas.

LOL Lonnit... YOU certainly made MY day/week/month/year.... :-D Just a baby? LOL that is the best compliment ever especially since I turn 40 next year! Only 7 years younger than you. :-) Certainly feels good to hear it. ;-) Of course, I laughed and laughed when I read your comment about me looking more like my portrait people, that was funny. :-D I actually went back to look at my portraits to see if indeed I resembled them in the slightest... but hmmm not yet, eventually after 20 years when I am 60... probably. LOL!
Thanks for liking the shot, certainly not one of my good ones but a fun one, I think, especially since I don't do self portraits. In fact used to enjoy getting my pics taken till I took up photography and after that, hate being in front of the camera. Took this shot by prefocussing on a stand kept at the exact spot where I would be standing and then switched to MF on the lens and used the self timer (f/16 I think to get the whole me in focus). Shot came out sharp.

Once again, thanks for your comments, you really did make my day! Cheers, Vikas.

Great self-portrait, Vikas. Nice to put a face with the name. While 4 arms is surreal, I like the symmetry of the sameness with each side (though I'm hoping the real Vikas has just two arms). -Michael

Honorable people can honorably disagree...and I disagree with Phil on this. Maybe I can see some PS work, maybe not...it may be just a shirt wrinkling...after all, four armed shits are very hard to come by. Lovely image and nicely processed. Best Wishes, Traveller

If I'm honest (and we all like that, right?) then this is far from your best Vikas.
I can see the PS work on your shirt (especially on your right/our left), and rather than looking "surreal" it just looks wrong. Sorry.
Phil

Hey, Vikas. If I recall correctly, you're well positioned to view the total eclipse coming in a couple of weeks. It goes SW-NE across Africa, almost right over the pyramids on the Giza plateau, and also northeast to Asia. I only mention this now because today was a lunar eclipse.

Nice picture, by the way, although, you perhaps may be looking a bit too expectantly at the camera, like "how long till the shutter goes off?"

Is that a ring I see on your right index finger? -- Victor

OMG VIKAS!!!!!!!! You're just a baby!!!!!!!!!!! Heeeeeey, niiiiiiic arms! ;) I was just wondering what you look like and then, bang-oh, there you are! LOL! Geeez, you've blown my mind - there I was, thinking you're well into your fifties all this time, probably looking more like one of your portrait people! LOL! What a shock! Ok, let me catch my breath... hmmmm... a lot of that going on here! LOL!. About the pic - excellent shot(s), nice PS work. I always have focus issues with self portraits. How did you attain such crisp focus? I never have a stand-in so I'm alays winging the focus. Great shot, and thanks for giving a face to the name. ~ Lonnit

Thanks Cindy for that link, really enjoyed it. Regarding conflicting items in the hands, did try that but then went for symmetry; thought that worked better. Thanks for the suggestion.
Alex/Ann, thanks, yup do try and make it to the gym as often as I can. :-) Gets tougher with age though :-(

Cheers, Vikas.

Nice to see you Vikas. You are very buff and I like the concept of body builder and artist rolled into one. Ann

You are in pretty good shape, Vikas

ha - wish I had 4 arms sometimes. Self portraiture IS extremely difficult. Did you see these?:http://www.bu.edu/agni/art/print/2004/minkkinen.index.html Good work on this one. An added twist would be each hand holding something that kind of conflicts with the objects in the other hands . . . hmmmmm . . . :) Cindy
