Thank you Sharon for your very kind comment! The columns were maybe four average humans tall, and the area of the old cistern was amazingly large, as far as I remember 60 meters long and 40 meters wide! I took the picture with my Canon 20D camera hand-held at ISO 3200, and I still got as much as half a second shutter time, but I supported my hands on a balustrade.

This is a really beautiful shot! I love the color and the space. I find it hard to comprehend the scale, if there was a human in this shot how tall would he be compared to this closest column? Good work, Sten! ~Sharon
Thanks for appreciating my picture! The color is "natural" with automatic white balance and the light comes from small lamps, which are hidden behind the columns. This old cistern was very large. /Sten
Sten, there's a color I was going for awhile back in the "Dominant Color" challenge. I wanted "Dark Fire" if there could be such a thing. I tried using yellow, red, and orange filters in a dark room to capture the right tone, but ended up giving up and just going with red. Your shot is what I was going for. The vaults and the reflections really add a lot too. Well seen and well captured!
