One of my two favourites so far in the challenge. It is timeless! Tim

Hi Olaf, NO, that is just a cloud. Interestingly, this house was constructed with no view of the mountain, and in a wetland too. The cemetery for the family:http://www.pbase.com/cindyd/image/45892492 was constructed with a fantastic view of Mt. Shasta and the surrounds. But I suppose in those days water was more important than views. And the house was located in a little valley to be sheltered from hurricane force winds we can get here. To give you an idea of how isolated this must have been . . . it was built in 1854. Mt. Shasta was only named by non American Indian people in 1851 I think. There were no roads, no trails, only a few loosely described routes. This was a subsistance farm - they grew what they needed to eat. I'm surprised at how large this house was for those conditions.

Thanks, Cindy

I like'em both. I guess the other one is more dramatic, but this is one h'lluva shot too! Love the way the weeds have the same direction as the perspective and the clouds. Is that Mt. Shasta we see peaking up on the right?

Cindy, these two shots are really gorgeous! I like this one a lot with the thistles in the foreground and the deep dark sky. The sepia tone works really well here, making it feel very arid. Beautiful work! ~Sharon
