My error. It was the radius of curvature (unchanged under foreshortening), not the lengths of curved track segments, that bothered me. I couldn't see a regular locomotive "bending" around such curves, but now realize they don't go there--just cars and equipment whose wheel clusters aren't rigidly in-line like those of locomotives. .. Lew

Victor's got it right. This was shot with a telephoto and there is a lot of foreshortening.

Seems pretty typical to me of a train yard. Bear in mind the foreshortening. Look how close the railroad ties are together to get an idea of the strength of the foreshortening. -- Victor

Wow, those are some scary-looking turns. Amazing that an engine and cars can negotiate such a sharp bend. (Or are these tracks for short-length conveyances?) Nice catch! .. Lew
