Bear in mind that this is not plain cauliflower but broccoflower, which is green. I tried to simulate a sunset on the left somewhat, but I think I got the color a little wrong. Also, the blue coming from the right should have been a more diffuse blue coming from all over. The saturated green in the background was not a separate adjustment, nor was the "sky".

I shot the "scene" in a room of my house that has a pale blue wall, painted, I suppose, to look like a sky. My adjustments were mainly to levels, thus deepening the blue. The yellow-lit image was a separate layer from the blue-lit layer. These were blended over a natural-colored base image illuminated with soft, diffuse light from above.

I stopped the lens down as far as it would go, which was f/22. I think the resulting depth of field is about right for what I wanted. I'd rather have a closer perspective, though, so a reshoot will likely involve using my 50mm lens instead. Unfortunately, my clip to hold the Raynox lens broke, so I have a jury-rigged system that, unfortunately, only fits the 85mm lens. Maybe it would also fit my 28-135 lens, but I think the front element is too clos to the front on that lens. -- Victor

victor, i like this one the best out of the two shots but it looks a tad over colored. a very detailed cropped version (*) would get my vote - it is spot on topic and the best example of chaos patterns here.

Believe it or not, the background is not colorized. I decided to find a landscape on the broccoflower and arrange the lighting to simulate a sunset. I don't generally do landscapes, so I'm fairly clueless about landscape composition. I just picked what seemed to be interesting, given what I had to work with. -- Victor
