* A Foggy Day

Bethpage, Long Island NY

Woke to the fog this morning and longed to go
out and shoot. I was thrilled it was still
hanging around after my errands were done. I
grabbed my camera, picked up an dear friend,
and went for a drive. What a lovely day!

Thanks, Michael. I believe my statement is that despite the fact that we encounter orange fences everywhere we go, every day, it shouldn't be such a distraction that we spend so much time dwelling on the negative that we miss the beauty around it. I saw this image and did not think, "Oh, look at that hideous orange fence!". Instead, I said, "Ohhhhhhh, look at that beautiful cluster of trees in the fog!". It was an afterthought that the fence was there. I was more involved with getting the best vantage point over the big orange fence that was right in front of me and so didn't even notice the one in the distance until I was framing up the shot. There was no way around it, so I shot anyway. Better I walk away and appreciate nothing? Or better to appreciate it for all that slpendor it had? :) ~ Lonnit

Well, OK, I've been looking at this image over a number of days because I really like the mood, composition, and colors. From your comments, Lonnit, I don't think you intended the orange fence to be significant, it was just there. However, I think it adds something very profound to this landscape. None of us want orange fences to intrude on the beauty around us, but they are there and very real. I think you've made a very significant statement with this image which goes beyond the beauty of the moment. -Michael

Thanks. Oh, and those aren't lyrics, it's my story. LOL! ~ LOnnit

Beautiful image, captures the mood really well. I am wondering what song is that title referring to? Sinatra? I believe the lyrics for that song were something else.

Thanks Cat - I'm just busting your horns. ;) Yes, in this one, there was less processing - just a bit in the coloring. I actually shot it in tungston mode to get the blue cast, then I enhanced the greens. ~ Lonnit

In this one your artistic processing touch is VERY subtle and almost the right amount. I can't say the same about the other two. Did I say I hate the other two? Nope, I didn't. I saw that you made it to the interestingness with the other two... congratulations!! -Cat

LOL! The really funny thing is that both the others made in Flickr's
"Interestingness" gallery, but not this one, althou it has been complimented and favorited. So, you really hate the others, huh? LOL! That's cool. They were all experiments. As you see they are a departure from my usual styles. ~ Lonnit

Dear Lonnit, This one is probably my fav amongst the 3, also has the most potential in ($)... without the orange fence ofcourse. Good luck! ( I will classify the other two as "still learning" ) -Cat

I would have preferred the orange fence was not there, but, I do think it adds a nice little something. I think I agree with everyone! LOL! ~ Lonnit

I'm probably with Victor on this...the fence both bothers me, and yet it maybe does add something. But this also reminds me of the rule that you can only shoot what is there. This is a nice capture. Best Wishes, Traveller

The orange fence does, indeed add something, an ugly distraction. I hate orange fences. -- Victor

Probably my favourite of your 3.The PP is less intrusive and the orange fence seems to add something.
