Victor, I haven't commented on this before, but my eye is always drawn to the thumbnail. I think it is a wonderful in composition, color and emotional effect, I may even vote for it. Best wishes, Traveller

Which other image? I think at the time you made the comment I had no other entries. By the way, I hardly ever consciously follow accepted composition rules. I generally just go by feel.

To answer your pic about this, no. I guess, technically, the head and neck are originating from the corners, but the prominance of the chin over the faded neck cause the eye to run a track that is from the upper left corner, to the lower right thirds line on the edge. The instrument comes up nicely to infer a break in that line as well. That line skips and continues, somewhat, in the shadow of the cheek, which again, runs off the edge at the line of thirds. So, you've definitely followed the traditional compositioning techniques here, and it works. The breaking of the rule in your other image works too. :
