Better Chain *

Austin, Texas

A. Chain two.
B. Push hook through loop of first chain stitch.
C. Loop yarn around hook and pull through only one loop.
D. Loop yarn around hook and pull through both remaining loops.
E. Push hook through bottom (left) loop from previous operation.
F. Repeat steps C through E until desired length is achieved.

This results in a better chain stitch than the standard one.
The bottom edge of the fabric using this better chain stitch
stretches the same amount as the rest of the fabric. In addition
the bottom edge looks nicer.

I like the way you put these together. Very colorful and instructional, too. Unique idea! shu

This is the starting row, not the ending row, by the way. Here's what it looks like if stitching is continued on both sides (row of X's in the middle). This picture omits levels, curves, and some USM that I used in the entry picture.

Cool! I've spent the last month making an afghan; today's work has been the finishing edging. I like this technique -- I'll have to try that. Neat crochet hook!
