red on red*

When I looked out my window today, I noticed this red VW polo against the red metal cladding of the building across
the street and I thought it was worth a shot. The light was nice - low angle sun shining through some bare trees.
The shot I composed in the viewfinder had much more in it. The car was kind of dirty and the metal cladding of the
building had black graffiti on it. As interesting as the dirt, graffiti and tree shadows were, it didn't make for a mini-
malistic shot, so I cropped tightly to this composition, avoiding most of the distracting elements. I still had to remove
some of the graffiti in front of the windshield. I also cloned out a few rivets from the metal cladding in the background.

Very nice, Olaf. The color is most dramatic. I also like your composition choice. I would have leveled the line of the window with the bottom of the frame and I think that choice would have been a mistake. Very striking as you've present it. -Michael

Olaf,

I still find myself distractingly drawn to the area of the visors. I've never been able to quite figure out the shapes that are there, except for the grey visor. This, to me, detracts from the image. However, imagining the picture with that area blacked out, I don't think that would be an improvement. -- Victor

On popular request - and since the theme is minimalism - I altered reality yet a wee bit with the cloning tool: beads are no more!
Canon DSLR Challenge20-Nov-2005 16:53
Agree with Phil re: the beads.

Remarkably good fortune or timing here. The reds work great together and fit the theme so well.
Not so sure about the amount of detail visible inside the car, though, especially the beads hanging from the mirror, think I'd be tempted to lose them.

Replaced this with the one taken immediately before the one originally posted. Only difference: no motion blur in this one.

Much better! -- Victor

Thanks aam1234! Victor, you are right! I noticed after I had uploaded. It is particularly visisble as this is close to a 100% crop. The shooting situation was a bit stressful as I was taking care of my 4-year old at the same time and I did not have the time to get out my tripod. Should've shot this at iso200. I did take other shots, so I'll see if one of them is better than this one.

There seems to be some significant nearly vertical motion blur. -- Victor
