Garret, I am a shallow DOF kind of guy, as I really like to isolate the individual detail of an item, I think that aspect works well here. I think that you are showing too much water in this image however, as it seems like just too much weight on the left-hand side of the image. Too me also, you just really don't need to show that much water, as a much smaller bit would serve the same purpose as it is here. I also think that is you did move the shot too the left more you would have a couple more strong diagonals that would enhance the image. Chris

Well Garret, this one has the WATER in it - something I couldn't achieve along with the nice backlight.

Thanks, Ed and Olaf.

I did not consider backlighting because there was a chain across the pier. Maybe I should go back in the evening for a backlit shot. On the other hand, I doubt I can get anything as good as Olaf's shot.

Another mooring ring shot - I hadn't seen this when I took mine. Did you also try a backlit version? Like Ed said, the oof water is nice.

My kind of photo. I like how the water has been smoothed to uniform color by the shallow DOF.
