Dear iso, now that this is back to...colorish...lol...I think I see my problem with it...it is too real in this version, (for me), while the B&W gave it some emotional distance.
Best Wishes, Traveller

Nice switch, I think that the new change works well. Chris

In the end, I've reworked it slightly. Although I favoured mono, I've still been finding it a little flat. I just don't think the light was interesting enough to give me the mono that was in my head when I shot it. I've settled for a combination of the two. Not really a partial desat image, I've used mainly the mono image for the background walls as I prefered the textures, with just a hint of the original colours left in, and reinstated my character to full colour. I'm not changing it again. I think I'll make the RAW file available and people can create their own as it seems everyone prefers it a different way :)

iso, I just about fell off my chair at *burn down the dung*, great cheerful banter. So many fine things are happening in this inage. The subject is expressive and the graphical quality of shape and line is superb. It was my pleasure to see both the b&w and color versions. I find that I'm surprising myself to say I prefer the color version. The subtle color shifts in the background were very rich and your son had a luminous quality which didn't make it all the way into the b&w version. Color vs b&w nuances aside, this is a very striking image. -Michael

Technically, well you know. Here is my thing with this, I think that it is an appealing image, but I think too technically well done, and to me is an example that could use some imperfections. Here is a boy, lost, or hidding, and someone has lovingly photographed a Hallmark © card of it. It seems to me that this is an example were some grit to the photo, as if the photographer stubled upon the image, or captured it telephoto, or just a more candid nature. I think that technical perfection can be stunning, and I think that the subject and image is very nice, just looks too clean for me.

Put the colour back, please. You had a nice, shiny little boy with new sneakers sulking in a dingy dirty place....it worked very well. Now you just have blaaaaahhh.......another newspaper clipping.

Hi iso - here's one idea for a title if you're still soliciting ideas: lost but not forgotten *
BTW, I think the B&W is more emotive with or without burned poo - Kelly

Any criticism that tells me to *burn down the dung* is essential :)

I do like the overall photography. My only nit is the white dung, or whatever that is, just to the right of your son's shin is so much brighter (or it seems because of the concentration) than the rest of it. I find it distracting from the main focal point, which is your son. Maybe burning down the dung a bit? (OMG-I can't believe I just gave ISO some criticism-I hope I don't get banned for life for doing so. LOL)

I prefer the BW version. In this one my eyes are wandering around - in the other I concentrate on him. I'm getting too distracted by the "patterns" on the floor and walls now, where before I only glanced around but went back to the boy. Maybe it just ought to be Lensbabied! LOL! ;) ~ Lonnit

Well. I originally thought black and white so I left the stripy top on him that he was already wearing to help pick him out of the drab background. The shoes ah hah! Basically we could only find one of his old ones at that time as his little brother had well and truly hidden the other one so new shoes it was or we didn't get to go out at all. In b&w it wouldn't matter too much would it? Should've gone barefoot really but there's too much pigeon poop and cigarette ends on the ground there. Mrs iso doesn't appreciate Poop Art.

However I do like the juxtaposition of the clean and new looking boy in such a rubbishy old place. Just a dud title. Titles give to much influence to many pictures I think. I'll change it and then people can see what they want with the image. I think dark and dismal is more a reflection of the location.

The black and white version is in the current CTF challenge. This morning I decided that it looks too flat and the colour version helps pick him out better. I think.

To be honest, I have trouble linking this to the word Acheronian. Partly because I don't think the tones are gloomy or dark enough. Is it because this little chap is meant to crying a river? That said, I do think its a wonderful shot in itself and it's very powerful, it's just the title. ;) xx

Love the expression but I think the background is distracting.
Teapot.

...damn, where's that "Edit comment" button gone?
On second thoughts, Iso - he's too well dressed, too clean. The trainers are too "new" looking, when I think that as well as "dark and dismal" he ought to look more lost and/or abandoned. I know how much thought you put into their clothing, so I'd be interested to hear your reasoning.

OK, I admit, I had to go and look it up...

One thought, would this work in b/w? (I don't doubt you considered it, mind...)
