Thanks for positive comments. I actually played with cloning the corner detail out but thought that leaving it in actually gave some realism, a bit more depth and cut back the dominance of the moon. I have printed this out as an A3 size and it seems less of a problem in that.

Exquisite color in this simple and lovely landscape. (*)I'd suggest cloning out the tree tops in the lower left corner. With the large expanses of soft luscious color, that little bit of detail seems to grab my eye. This is really a special sunset. -Michael

I think this is a time where "rules" should be broken. The moon would be an afterthought if it were stuck in the corner, and this would become a rather featureless abstract of colors . Here, the moon is totally in your face, and the multicolored sky seems to hang from it like a painting hangs from a hook. I think Mike got it just right.

Olaf - I have removed the other photo as I didn't really like it that much. Placement of a feature is interesting - ideally the moon needed to me a little to the left (off this photo) as the top of Mt Wellington (above Hobart) is there. However I think it ended up being better because of the bland horizontal sections. This nearly falls into the ideal photo of being broken into thirds - with a different texture and colour in each. In reality it was a fluke photo - it was very windy and cold. I had to hang my pack (with a rock in it) off my tripod to stop it being blown away!

Mike, the thing about the moon being centered is really a small thing. I prefer this image over the other one - both colors and composition are better. I did try it with the moon off-centered, and the improvement was only slight. I moved the moon to the right in the picture and then flipped the whole thing horizontally, so that the moon ended up on the left. Like I said: fantastic shot! --Olaf.dk

Must be an individual thing as to whether the moon is central or what. I took a few shots so have posted another with the moon offset and the the landscape included - just for Olaf!

Fantastic capture and colors! My only regret (*) is the central position of the moon. --Olaf.dk

This is just lovely. The colors are so soft yet brilliant. Great capture! ~Sharon

These were natural colours. It was a a windy evening with clear sky and an inversion layer over Hobart - we walked up Mt Mawson at sunset and the sky went from a golden to deep red colour and the moon came out over a thin cloud layer. It was awesome to be there - even better to capture it.
