well, unlike seemingly everyone else...I really find this image to be arresting. I think that this is an amazing and honest capture of the actual spirit of a young lady. Best Traveller

I have to agree with Jeannie on this - but again, as a father of 2 girls, perhaps that's why! The make-up is just too heavy for my liking.
I'm also curious as to the grain - I assume you added it later as it's ISO200. Again, it just doesn't add anything to the image for me.

Over the years our family has had plenty of young girls competing in dance and tap eisteddfords so it's not unusual for us to see the heavy make up.
I guess it's what your used to.
BTW no offense taken , I was just trying to explain where I was comming from.
cheers eric.

thubleau, please no offense. I wasn't saying that her makeup wasn't done well. Rather, that she is just too young for so much makeup. And when I said this was from an "old mom", I really meant "old fashioned mom". Although both may be true... ;) LOL. -- Jeannie (jburly)

Ummm..actually this is part of a make up portfolio I am shooting so one of the requirements was to demonstrate make up techniques and the use of make-up.

This is actually quite subtle compared to the dramatic make up effects and the photographic make up techniques which form a part of this portfolio.
All make up was handled by professionals in the field, and this one was done by an artist who trained under Lawrence De'castor ( I think that's the spelling) who is in Los Angeles at the moment working on a feature for one of the studios.

Sorry thubleau, just too much mascara, eye liner, & lipstick for me. She just can't be old enough, but that's just an old mom talking. ;) As a photographer, very nice portrait. -- Jeannie (jburly)

My first thought was 'Audrey Hepburn.' They eyelashes are something else, to be sure.

Hmmm..........yeh it's hard to get it just right without hearing some comments.
I will have to pay a little bit more attention next time.

I like this too. The eyes and the expression are great. I also like the brightness on the face and left shoulder to highlight things. If I had one tweak to suggest, it might be to soften the transition line between the light/dark border across her throat and over onto her shoulder. For some reason, it just seems too stark there. Everywhere else looks just perfect on my monitor. I'm not sure how to go about this, however, so that's not much help :) Outstanding shot.

Quite a captivating image. So young and yet so much makeup. Her eylashes are incredible! That . . . and the lighting give it s slightly surreal sensibility. The lighting and the DOF are just right. I really like this! -- Bruce
