When I see pictures like this, I don't see the "floating" eye - to me, it is anchored because I can visualise the link!
But, as I said, I happen to really like this extreme approach; I know it's not for everyone though.

My pleasure - wasn't that hard. Getting me to talk is never the problem, it's getting me to STOP giving opinions! In my mother's opinion, I'm to opinionated - Imagine that! LOL! ~ Lonnit

Lonnit, thanks for initiating the discussion.

Ahhhh.... see, now this is why I love these discussions! I felt like too much of the image was removed, but it was just a feeling - I didn't know why it was too much. The discussion brought to my attention the reason why.... yes, it's the fact that parts are floating, unattached. That's what makes me want to have the effect pulled back a bit. I LOVE the effect, I just need to see a bit more, and I do mean a BIT more, of the actual dog. The effect is perfect, it's just that we need a bit more of the dog showing. See, now I never would have figured that out without the discussion. I "felt" a problem, but now I "understand" the problem. And you can't fix a problem until you understand what it is. Thanks all! BTW, I just love, love, love, the actual tones in this shot. ~ Lonnit

Thanks all for the terrific feedback, both positive and especially negative. Wish I could be so descriptive in
my feedbacks on entries.
Lonnt: This is the effect I was aiming for and pushed the effect. Wish I could take a picture with this effect straight from camera... need to keep trying. Agree with you..need to pull back a bit.
Traveller, Nancy and Phil: Glad you like this picture.
Vikas: Thanks for the pointing out the suspended right eye, need to anchor it to the face.
Gayle: He (Monty is the name) was wiped from playing soccer with the kids outside, refused to move even for a treat.

Andy: I am still learning...
Cat: Concur with your assessment.
Abs: Your are really great in explaining concepts in a nutshell, thanks.

i generally see PS treatment like high-key, as a tool to present only needed (just enough) information and remove the unnecessary parts from the image.
with that rule, the only information i get here is, "its a dog"...if i were to portray the tiring feeling more effectively, i would include more face details of the dog...which will automatically address the issue pointed out by Vikas. not to mention, as Gayle has mentioned, dog's pose is REALLY good, so why take away so much from the viewer? just my 2 cents. -Abstract

I like the treatment very much, (*)but a little less would be better for this shot. I have to agree with Lonnit. And all the more reason based on what Vikas said and same applies to the left paw. But reducing as little as possible to anchor the eye and the paw will be fine IMO. -Cat

I don't like the treatment on this. I think high key works well in certain circumstances. Just doesnt work for me in this instance.

I'm sitting on the fence on this one. I kinda like it but I'd love to see this with a more regular treatment too. The pose looks SO good! I wish my dogs would stay still for me.

WOW, that is really very nice. Love the High Key Treatment, excellent. Only one suggestion if I may, the dog's right eye seems to be suspended in space, I would either clone it out or show more of the right side to anchor it to the face. Just my two bits, feel free to disregard.

Cheers, Vikas.

Oh, Lonnit, don't take this personally but... I really like this too! I'm a bot of fan of very-high key style (thought seriously about adopting it as "my" style for a while) and I think it works really well here. Phil

Oooooo.... I love the high key treatment-- it fits the image perfectly! --Nancy/odigi

I must disagree with Lonnitt on this...I like the fact that you went, "way," too far on this. I appreciate the effect as is. Traveller

Ok, I get what you're going for and I like what you were aiming towards, but you overdid it and went too far. Can you pull back the effect a bit so we've got a bit more of the picture? I think then it might be really good! I see you like to play in PS too. :) And my comments have nothing to do with the scathing review I just got! LOL! ;) ~ Lonnit
