Nancy - you can remove at least some of the haze.
Try some USM at 20/60/4 for a quick fix, or 20/50/0 then Edit/Fade USM (Darken) then USM 10/50/0
Both will give you a less hazy look and boost the contrast.

James, not too much processing on this shot-- some Levels and USM is about it. The hills do have a velvety quality to them this time of year.

Phil, I'm sorry you're not happy with the processing on this shot. Not much I can do about the haze-- it's what we live with about 90% of the year here in the San Joaquin Valley. The Valley is a sort of bowl of smog soup and it doesn't go anywhere until we get rain again.

I'm surprised everyone seems happy with the tones on this - to me it's a bit hazy and would benefit from a little PP - a bit of levels and some coarse USM to boost the contrast and remove the haze.

I agree with Mr. Biscuit--it has a telephoto look to me. I really love the soft, muted color. Something about this has a sketch-like quality to me; it doesn't look very photographic at all. I'd be much obliged for any details of post-processing you would be willing to provide.

I did crop, but not all that much, actually-- some flaring that happened and also a bit off the top.

Joe, if you shoot with a wide angle lens and crop way into the shot, you get the exact same result as if you'd shot with a tele-lens from the same distance, only lower resolution, that is all... --Olaf.dk

Surprising perspective, given the 18mm focal length. It has the compressed look of a telephoto shot. I would have expected much greater expanse/depth.

I like the way the road banks to the right, turning your eye back into the image. Soft are the gentle hills at twilight. Best Wishes, Traveller

I love the light and shadow in this, a time of day that is most dramatic. ~Sharon
