coral lily pads *

San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers

While walking through the Conservatory today, my attention was grabbed by the bright coral color and geometric pattern in these lily pads. With this challenge in my mind, I was struck by the geometric pattern in the lily pads as juxtaposed with the geometric pattern in the reflection of the Conservatory glass roof in the pool of water.

Since the visual delight in this image relies heavily on the juxtaposition of "natural" geometric pattern versus "man-made" geometric pattern, I will certainly withdraw it if other entrants or the challenge host feels it is outside the scope of the challenge intent.

You're a poet, Michael. I like both the original crop and this one. This one empasizes the patterns a bit more. Your composition is dead on, as always. Well done! --Nancy/odigi

Ohhhhh...there's trouble in the kitchen tonight! (I have no idea what that phrase means...I just make these things up...lol). I happen to have from last night the "original," coral lily pads open in a browser and so I can view the two different crops side by side...and I really like the initial crop much better. (I Can hear you going...sigh).

I know what you mean, I that when this happens, equally compelling good crops...but, still, to me, in this version the lily pads seem to dominant, the conservatory window reflection pales to insignifigance. I thought that earlier one had a better balance and...almost an irony of man-made mocking nature or visa versa.

Who knows? I just had to give my opinion however. Best Wishes, Traveller

Thank you both. Kelly, I most heartily agree about a tighter crop. Last night I just couldn't find a crop which appealed to me. This morniing I worked it again and think I've acheived a better balance of elements. The original image has been replaced with the new crop. -Michael

Hi Michael - I agree with Andy.. just wish the image was bigger to explore the lily! I love the contrasting elements but wonder if a slightly tighter crop might equalize their respective voices. Great image!! - Kelly

I am heavily in agreement with you about this image and feel it is a worthy entry. Very well done.
